i’m at my psychiatrist’s office and somebody upstairs is playing a very difficult piece on piano and they’re making small mistakes but i want to...
swarbles; the wrong button (a questionable feversong sung by a sickthing with wounded wrists)
this week’s elephant 6 townhall hoursong is up! the theme was go flux yourself. i am pretty sick and my wrists are still real grouchy, so i sang an awful a cappella thing and i shouldn’t have submitted it because my brains feel bad and my throat is sore and i think i sound as though i’m going flat. am i going flat? probably. this is a song about hitting the wrong button and also that my father has an iphone and he is more proficient at it than i am.
available to download (if you’d want to do such a thing) from cllct. full release available to download from mediafire. if you like this, you should like me on facebook, too. sometimes i post things there. sometimes i don’t.
swarbles; oh no elephant (fell down).
this week’s elephant 6 townhall hoursong is up! there was no theme this week, because i only realized that nobody had posted a thread for songs shortly after midnight. my wrists are supremely messed up (carpal tunnel? arthritis? something else entirely different and equally painful?) and i can’t play any instruments for longer than about thirty seconds or so (which sucks and makes me want to die), so tonight’s hoursong is an a cappella glimpse into my mental neuroses. these sorts of little ditties go through my head all day. when tiny things happen, i like to sing them to myself. andso when the elephant candle fell off of my desk and onto the floor, i started singing this, and then i recorded it. it’s really absurd and not very good, ha.
available to download from cllct. there is only one other song this week, so it was silly to upload this to mediafire, but i did, because i am silly. and don’t forget; i’m on farcebook.
lyrics:
oh no elephant, elephant fell down
oh no elephant on the floor
oh no elephant, elephant fell down
oh no elephant on the floor
etc….
swarbles; Relish with a capital R.
this week’s elephant 6 townhall hoursong is up! this week’s theme was summer, and to pay tribute to ray bradbury, i pulled the lyrics for this song out of dandelion wine, which i read for the first time last year (and will be reading again shortly) and it surpassed fahrenheit 451 as my favourite bradbury book (andso both fahrenheit 451 and dandelion wine and are amongst my favourite books i’ve ever read).
the song is available to download via cllct. all the songs are available to download on mediafire as well. and don’t forget, if you enjoy this song, you should follow my musical endeavors on farcebook, which i am going to start using more actively real soon.
lyrics;
and suddenly,
everything,
absolutely everything
was there.
i’m alive,
and everyone’s alive,
but what’s the use
when they’re more alive than me?
the first thing you learn in life is you’re a fool,
and the last thing you learn in life is you’re the same fool.
a crazy creature with a head full of carnival spangles.
and time is so strange
and life is twice as strange;
the cogs miss,
the wheels turn.
and lives interlace too early,
or too late.
all i know is i feel good going to bed nights.
that’s a happy ending once a day.
but what makes the night?
shadows crawling out under from five billion trees.
swarbles; unfortunate truths (funeral shoes, part two).
the elephant 6 townhall weekly hoursong is up. the theme this week was breakfast cereal (??? at least i got to quote parks and recreation on the cllct page). i wrote about my unwell/dying grandmother instead. close enough.
lyrics;
the unfortunate truth about living
is that which keeps you alive will kill you.
your blood grows weary and slows,
and in slowing, your heart closes.
the unfortunate truth about dying
is you lose so much time while it’s happening.
spending hours counting the hours til it ends
and surely, it’s some sort of sick joke…
but i’m not laughing.
i made a farcebook page for my musical endeavors! if you enjoy my musical endeavors, you should “like” it! i’ll be posting updates about writing and recording whatever it is that i’m writing and recording at any given point in time. it’ll be real fun, i promise.
also if you enjoy my musical endeavors, be sure to like the page i created for said endeavors on farcebook!
swarbles; fragmentalism.
the weekly elephant 6 townhall hoursong is up. the theme was the cover art image (which is an image of a woman taking a photo in front of a whole slew of mirrors), which was found by googling “random.”
so i started off writing one thing, and then it turned into something else. also i’m horribly obsessed with the last chord progression, which i also used last week, and used again this week (and am actually using in a song for whatever it is that i’m working on). but i’m pleased with this, so alright!
available to download from cllct. the whole thing is available as a zipfile on mediafire.
lyrics:
you know, i don’t understand why
you only photograph mirrors;
reflecting fragments of the world for me,
as though the whole picture was too lovely.
you know, i don’t understand why
you only sing metered measures;
warbling fragments of the world for me,
as though the whole song was too lovely.
you know, i can understand why
you’re all i want to see
and you’re all i want to hear,
so could this be?

swarbles; the black lodge.
my second song from this week’s elephant 6 townhall hour song compilation about fictional characters was going to be an ode to special agent dale cooper (#fictional characters i want to have actual relations with), but i had trouble with it and it basically just wound up being about twin peaks in general. also the lyrics are virtually unintelligible. i like the basic chord structure of this (well, just the bridge-y “like cherry pie” and “the scent of” parts), but i’m not crazy about anything else. i think i am just being hypercritical about it because i have allergies and my throat feels like garbage and i couldn’t remember how i sang when i was recording vocals, and an hour isn’t very long to write and record a song in if you have hypercritical tendencies.
available to download from cllct and all of the songs are available as a zipfile on mediafire.
lyrics;
the hesitance of fluorescence
still flickers in uncertainty,
even when the bulb is warm.
like cherry pie
and coffee,
black as midnight on a moonless night,
black as midnight on a moonless night.
you’ll find me washed ashore, wrapped in plastic,
with letters jammed beneath my fingernails
for you to decode.
the scent of burnt motor oil,
and tall douglas firs,
and fear.
your doppelganger
runs circles round you here.
swarbles; nino quincampoix.
the elephant 6 townhall hoursong weekly compilation is up! i did two songs this week, because the theme was fictional characters, and a lot of the people i am in love with don’t really exist. i wanted to do more (stephane miroux, holden caulfield, alyosha karamazov, balki bartokomous, etc.), but it is really really warm in here and having the window shut for any amount of time was wicked unpleasant.
this first song is an instrumental yann tiersen-sounding song for nino quincampoix from amélie, as played on nino quincampoix (my accordion is a nino accordion that was made in italy) and a xylophone, and maybe i sing a bit of a chevalier song at the end because it was in my head. nino is a bit wheezy and rattley. i found a hole in his bellows and i duct taped it, but i think he requires more help that i’m not capable of providing.
available to download from cllct and all of the songs are available as a zipfile on mediafire.
swarbles; peony, peony.
this week’s elephant 6 townhall hoursong is up. the theme this week was the peony. i got the idea for this in the shower last night and played it at too fast a tempo, but wasn’t really wanting to rerecord it, so alright. this features the triumphant return of nino quincampoix, who no longer has any original straps, nor does he have any straps that are even appropriate accordion straps (two purse straps and a length of poly strapping we use at work), but at least he’s functional again.
as always, this song is available to download from cllct, or you could download all the songs in a zipfile available to download on mediafire.
lyrics;
peony, peony,
bud wrapped so tightly,
hiding your face needing more time to grow.
ohhhhhh
peony, peony,
blooming so suddenly,
white faces blush when your pale pink petticoats show.
ohhhhhh
peony, peony,
ants march with dignity,
carrying flags down the street so we all know.
ohhhhhh
peony, peony,
petals fall daintly,
cover the ground at your feet in your own snow.
ohhhhhh
peony, peony,
body lays lazily,
carried by ants to rest somewhere where we don’t know.
